What are the consequences of a cop finding marijuana on a person and/or vehicle?

I live in Pennsylvania and from what i know about Canada is that you are allowed to have a certain amount of weed on you before you can get into trouble. What im told is weed is Legal in canada unless over that certain amount. I'm not to sure what amount this may be but being from Pennsylvania this is what i have been told. So being hit with a caution they must not of had to much and more and likely it was all in one bag. being in more than one bag im sure they would get hit with intent to distribute.
