Does high cholesterol mean my liver isn't working properly?

I had a blood test done and my cholesterol was worser then it was previously. I drink a 750 ml bottle of wine every friday saturday and sunday could my cholesterol be high because of how much wine I drink since I heard one of the liver's job is to store cholesterol could it be it's not storing cholesterol properly because it's usually busy filtering alcohol instead so therefore it can't do other jobs effeicently? I was taking bitter melon for high triglycerides and my cholesterol was better then but I finished them and stopped taking them and now it got worse what could be the problem? Is it the wine or the fact that I stopped taking the supplements?
